Karen Whitman, "KAZ", has been creating exquisite art work for decades. She is well known in the Peruvian Paso horse breed not only for her fine art paintings and sculptures, but also for having drawn the logo for the PPHRNA, illustrating dozens of magazines and book covers.
This includes several acclaimed books written by Verne Albright, "The Bluebook of Peruvian Paso Bloodlines", and "The Peruvian Paso and His Classic Equitation."
Paintings by Karen Whitman "KAZ" hang in the private art collections of celebrities as well as dignitaries in Peru. She captures an animal's true splendor, "the piece becomes emotionally expressive!" Her signature painting style is that of classical elegance.
Karen's talent was nurtured at several prestigious art schools including the "Otis Art institute" and "Art Center" in Los Angeles, California, where she was awarded several scholarships for artistic excellence. She has shown at prominent galleries and has had successful one and two person shows with openings at the major West Coast horse race tracks. |

An avid equestrian fan and animal lover, she can accurately and uniquely produce a stunning likeness of any horse or dog, with her keen understanding of anatomy, gait, conformation and breed type, while still capturing the essence of the animals true personality! Her clients often say, "You have completely captured the expression of my pet, especially in the eyes!"
Karen's original portraits are a poetic blend of depth, color, form, and line, using oil, pastel, ink, or watercolors to create velvety, rich pieces touched by light and textured by shadows. These individual works of art are correct in form but "loose" in feel, much as the masterworks of the European painters.
Please contact Karen Whitman "KAZ" at her studio. She would love to create an heirloom portrait of your pet for your home!

Faraona* & filly
|
Karen Whitman "KAZ" has a long history of loving the unique and marvelous Peruvian Paso horse. She has owned a National Champion of Champion's Mare "Faraona*778", a Sol De Oro V. granddaughter imported from Peru, and raised several wonderful foals.
|
| Karen's daughter, Kathryn Zahlis, having also acquired a passion for horses and art has grown up riding Peruvians and winning awards on "Faraona*" at the "Nationals" from the age of eight. An accomplished Dressage rider- she has shown her own horses as well as having had the pleasure of showing many lovely-gaited Champion Paso Horses for Curry Ranch over the years. |
